GoalsThese studies aim at evaluating the impact of the outflow of thermal effluents from three powerplants in Morocco (Cap Rhir, Bir el Har and Tarfaya), using a numerical model. For each place the studies consist of:
- definition of the study’s domain and generation of the grid with the respective bathymetry, as well as the definition of the forcings (atmospheric parameters, e.g. wind, tides and initial and boundary conditions of temperature and salinity);
- preliminary simulations with the three-dimensional model ELCIRC (Zhang et al., 2004), for the calibration and the validation of the numerical model;
- simulation and characterization of the present situation, for different wind conditions;
- simulation and analysis of alternative solutions for the placement and configuration of the water intakes and outflows, for different wind conditions;
- analysis and integration of the results, based on the environmental criteria relative to the outflow of thermal effluents.
