The Information Technology Division (NTI) and the Estuaries and Coastal Zones Division (NEC) of LNEC’s Hydraulics and Environmental Department (DHA), and the Center for Coastal Margin Observation & Prediction (CMOP, U.S.A.) developed and implemented an operational forecast system for the circulation and short-wave propagation, applicable to the whole Portuguese coast. This platform provides selected results of the forecasts at selected coastal sites (significant wave height, water level, velocity, salinity and water temperature), validated with near real time data, when available. This project was funded by the Luso-American Foundation (FLAD), the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Tecnology (FCT) and the 7 Framework Programme.
