  • Coordination of the participation of LNEC in the ITF/OECD/FIA project: 2015-2017: A methodology for benchmarking road safety performance in selected Latin American countries.
  • Member of LNEC's team in the ANSR (Autoridade Nacional de Segurança Rodoviária) project: 2013-2014 - Portuguese mainland road network safety performance indicator.
  • Member of LNEC's team in the CML (Câmara Municipal de Lisboa) project: 2013 - Lisbon's road accident geographical data base update and identification of high accident risk sites.
  • Member of LNEC's team in international research projects (EU R&D Transport Projects):
    • 2009/2011 - RISMET - Road Infrastructure Safety Management Evaluation Tools (ERANET program);
    • 2004/2008 - SAFETY-NET - The New European Road Safety Observatory;

  • Member of LNEC's team in the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation financed research project:2005/2009 - IRUMS - Safer roads in urban areas, project financed  by FCT (POCI/TRA/58259/2004), with the development of tools that allow the inclusion of safety aspects in the intervention process in urban transport networks. Within this work several accident prediction models were developed for urban areas.

Scientific Orientation

Scientific guidance, as principal advisor, of  MSc students of the New University of Lisbon:

  • Detailed Diagnosis of road safety in urban areas;
  • Characterization of the traffic fluctuation in the city of Lisbon;
  • The use of nomadic devices while walking. Obervation and analysis of traffic interactions in the city of Lisbon;
  • Methodology for the definition of  pedestrian exposure indicators for road accidents' modeling.

Scientific guidance, as principal advisor, of  MSc students of Lusofona University:

  • The Road Safety in Angola
  • Road Safety in the capitals of the Iberian Peninsula
