LNEC at the launch of the CAMBER project LNEC at the launch of the CAMBER project
2025-03-10

The launch meeting of the CAMBER project - Connected and Adaptive Maintenance for Safer Urban and Secondary Roads was held at LNEC.

The project is co-funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme and by the United Kingdom under UKRI - UK Research and Innovation.

The objective is to develop and demonstrate viable solutions to integrate asset and safety management into urban and secondary road networks, using crowdsourced data, digital twins and vehicle-to-infrastructure technologies. With an estimated length of 725,000 km, Europe’s secondary roads are responsible for more than 90% of fatal and serious accidents, of which one in three involves a motorcyclist, cyclist, pedestrian or other micromobility user. The approaches and tools developed are tested in pilot areas in Portugal, Spain, Croatia, the Netherlands and Greece.

The CAMBER project includes 14 partners from industry, academia and the non-profit sector. The Planning, Traffic and Safety Unit - NPTS of LNEC coordinates the pilot study in Portugal.
