![]() 2025-04-07 LNEC is co-organising the congress "Desalination for the Environment - Clean Water and Energy", promoted by the European Desalination Society (EDS), which is being held for the first time in Portugal, in Porto, from April 27 to 30, at the Alfândega Congress Centre. This international event brings together experts from all over Europe to discuss technological advances, socio-economic challenges and environmental solutions related to desalination, as well as solutions to water and energy shortages, with a focus on Portuguese projects. Portugal, which faces significant challenges related to water scarcity, especially in the Algarve region, is at the forefront of desalination efforts. Portugal is also implementing water-saving measures, such as reducing park irrigation and reusing treated water. The congress will address how desalination can be a crucial solution to complement increasingly limited natural water sources. The latest technologies, the costs and extent of their application, as well as the socio-economic and environmental impacts will be discussed. LNEC's participation, as a reference institution in the field of civil and environmental engineering, reinforces Portugal's commitment to finding innovative and sustainable solutions for managing water resources. |
