At LNEC, research takes shape through rigorous testing, scaled physical models, and advanced technology. Here, engineers, chemists, architects, and technicians work side by side to study and evaluate bridges, dams, buildings, and a wide variety of construction materials — such as cement or concrete, coatings, insulation, or window frames. Each project is carefully analysed, whether in the design, construction, or maintenance phase.
Our laboratories are equipped to test the performance and durability of materials and structures under controlled conditions. We have unique seismic platforms in the country, where we simulate the behaviour of buildings during earthquakes, and physical models that allow us to anticipate the real-life performance of large-scale engineering works.
LNEC regularly hosts study visits, both national and international, as well as groups of visitors from the general public.
Visits are free of charge but require prior booking and confirmation by the Technical and Public Relations Office.
Each visit can be tailored to the areas of interest of the participants, offering a personalized and informative experience.
General visits usually follow the program below:
After the official request and receiving confirmation from our Office, visitors must present themselves at the reception of LNEC's main building, located at Avenida do Brasil, 101, in Lisbon, at the scheduled time.
