        Head of Unit

        The Construction Behaviour and Technology Unit has the following main objectives:


        • Development of scientific research and support of technological; development within the scope of building studies
        • Support of good practices in civil engineering
        • Support to the construction industry
        • Support the development of standards and regulations


        It carries out R&D&I activity in different areas, involving aspects related with performance, health, durability, conservation, and sustainability of construction in buildings. The following areas of activities stand out:


        • Performance and durability of building materials and systems
        • Assessment of the state of conservation of buildings
        • Technologies of Conservation of historic buildings
        • Technologies of buildings rehabilitation
        • Fire reaction of construction products
        • Sustainability of construction materials and systems


        Activity

        Within the referred areas, the following types of activities are developed at the Unit:


        • National and international studies and research projects, focusing on the areas of construction coverings, environmental comfort, rehabilitation of buildings, conservation of heritage with cultural value, and environmental sustainability of constructive solutions
        • Experimental characterization and technical evaluation of construction materials and systems, in wall, floor, and roof coverings and prefabricated elements for buildings, namely at the request of manufacturers, importers, applicators, and building owners
        • Consultancy for public and private entities, particularly in the areas of assessment and diagnosis of construction anomalies, analysis of building rehabilitation solutions, and support to interventions for the conservation of built heritage with cultural value
        • Support to standardization and regulation
        • Support to postgraduate training and diffusion of knowledge
