Filipe Telmo Jeremias
Head of Unit
The Engineering and Environmental Geology Unit integrates a multidisciplinary team with expertise in engineering geology, hydrogeology, geophysical surveying and environmental geotechnics.
The Unit develops geological, geotechnical and hydrogeological site investigation studies for civil engineering works, slope risk assessment, waste storage and recycling, contaminated site investigation, remediation and containment, environmental liability recovery and the application of geosynthetics.
It is noteworthy the significant contribution of the Unit in major projects, such as the Vasco da Gama Bridge, the Lisbon General Drainage Plan, the Lisbon Underground Extension works, the Pico da Urze and Cahora Bassa dams, as well as hazardous and non-hazardous waste landfills, and the Tâmega Hydroelectric Scheme.
It is also worth mentioning NGEA's involvement in the reclamation of the environmental liability of São Pedro da Cova, the production of maps of vulnerability to mass movements and construction capacity for the Municipality of Odivelas.
The Engineering and Environmental Geology Unit carries out R&D&I activities within the framework of the LNEC's research and innovation strategy, in partnership with universities and other entities. It also provides technical and scientific advice at the request of external bodies.
