        • Coastal science and engineering: Littoral physical processes; Beach-dune system morphodynamics during extreme events and recovery; Beach dune structures interaction modelling; Coastal protection; Beach rehabilitation.
        • Mathematics: Numerical method solutions for partial differential equations; Iterative Krylov subspace methods; Multigrid technique.

        Research and Professional Activity

        • National (continent, Madeira and Porto Santo) and international (Brasil, People´s Republic of China, United Kingdom, São Tomé e Príncipe, Guiné Bissau and Angola) consulting projects, for public and private clients.
        • Research projects financed by national (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian) and international (European Commission) agencies.
        • The developed projects resulted in the authorship or co-authorship of 160+ publications, including: 31 indexed papers, 3 book chapters, 61 conference papers, and 69 technical reports.

        Scientific Orientation

        Supervision of 19 researchers: 12 research project fellows, 4 M.Sc. students, 1 Ph.D. student and 2 Pos-docs.
