RESEARCH INTERESTS

• Sea wave modelling and hydrodynamics;
• Sediment transport and morphodynamics of the coastal zone;
• Numerical modelling, physical modelling and in situ monitoring;
• Coastal erosion and flooding vulnerability and risk assessment methodologies;
• Remote sensing techniques applied to coastal areas;
• Maritime hydraulics data analysis techniques.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY

• He has worked since 1988 in the fields of maritime hydraulics and civil engineering applied to the coastal zone.
• He participated in more than thirty scientific research projects, with national (Foundation for Science and Technology) and international (MAST Programs, EU-Framework, Interreg) funding, having coordinated ten.
• He participated in more than twenty consultancy projects in Portugal and abroad, having coordinated approximately half. Within the scope of these projects, he characterized and evaluated coastal engineering problems, in the field of ​​maritime hydrodynamics and sedimentary dynamics and assessment of vulnerability to maritime action, having participated in the development and testing of alternative rehabilitation and protection solutions.
• He supervised (or co-supervised) 4 doctoral theses, 10 master's theses and 3 bachelor's theses.
• It has disseminated the results of his work through continuous publication, including 30 papers in national and international journals with scientific refereeing, 120 publications in proceedings of national and international conferences and around 90 technical and scientific reports.
