LNEC is co-organising, together with the Portuguese Structural Concrete Group (GPBE), the 1st GPBE Symposium – 60 Years, dedicated to the 2nd Generation of Eurocode 2, which will take place at LNEC on 6 November 2026.

During this symposium, the first edition of the new “2026 Excellence in Research Award” will take place. This initiative by the GPBE, with the support of CIMPOR, aims to recognise the best doctoral theses in the field of Structural Concrete produced at Portuguese higher education institutions.

The authors of the two best theses will present their work at a special session as part of the symposium and will be the national candidates nominated by the GPBE for the fib Achievement Award for Young Engineers (AAYE) 2027, in the Research category.

The pre-registration period for candidates runs until 10 September 2026, whilst applications must be submitted by 25 September 2026. The results of the eligibility assessment, corresponding to the first stage of the competition, will be announced on 6 October 2026.
