João Pimenta, a research fellow at LNEC's Water Resources and Hydraulic Structures Unit, was awarded the APRH Prize for Young Researchers during the 17th Water Congress, which took place in Lagos between April 8 and 11.

The prize, awarded biennially by the Portuguese Water Resources Association (APRH), recognizes the best doctoral and master's dissertations in the areas of Water Resources.

As part of his master's degree in Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the New University of Lisbon, João Pimenta developed an innovative tool to assess the volume of reservoirs based on satellite image analysis. The work was supervised by engineers João Nuno Fernandes and Alberto Azevedo, from LNEC's Estuaries and Coastal Zones Unit.

This distinction underlines the quality of the research carried out at the Water Resources and Hydraulic Structures Unit and the contribution of the young researchers to the advancement of knowledge in the area of water resources.
