On May 14, 2026, LNEC hosted in Lisbon the course “Water reuse in golf course irrigation – Risk assessment”, bringing together experts and sector professionals at a time of increasing water scarcity in Portugal.

The training highlighted the strategic role of Water for Reuse (ApR) as a sustainable solution for golf course irrigation, while emphasizing the need for rigorous risk management to safeguard public health, the environment, and soil quality. A practical qualitative risk assessment methodology was presented and applied through group exercises.

This initiative aligns with the strengthening of the regulatory framework, notably the recent publication of ISO 16075-7:2025, which provides guidelines for the use of treated wastewater in irrigation projects for golf courses and other sports fields, promoting trust and wider acceptance of water reuse.
