The fifth episode of the LNEC Lisbon Conference 2025 featured Prof. Ana Catarina Sousa, Vice-President of Cultural Heritage, I.P., who presented the main challenges of construction in historic centers and listed buildings. With a PhD in Prehistory and Archaeology, Ana Catarina Sousa emphasized the impact of climate change on built heritage and the need for solutions that reconcile preservation, sustainability, and contemporary use.
"Rehabilitation is a more sustainable solution than building from scratch, preserving identity and reducing the ecological footprint", she said at the podcast which you can listen to here, arguing that conservation should be seen as an opportunity. For the archaeologist, intervening in historical heritage is also a way of strengthening the resilience of cities and enhancing their collective memory.
The LNEC Lisbon Conference will take place on October 8 and 9, 2025.
