Within the scope of the Cooperation Agreement between the Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles de Costa Rica and LNEC, Engineer Josette Araya concluded her internship at the Geotechnics Department of LNEC with the feeling that she had exceeded her expectations.
During her internship, she was involved in projects using micropillar techniques, in the review of technical standards, and on a construction site visit that allowed her to observe field practices.
Impressed by the work-life balance in Portugal, the engineer highlights the flexible schedule as a positive factor she would like to see applied in her country: "It was inspiring to see how work and personal life can be so harmoniously balanced".
For Josette Araya, the most striking aspect was the contrast between the challenges of geotechnical engineering in Portugal and Costa Rica. " I sincerely hope Costa Rica has the kind of challenges Portugal faces now, because that would mean progress in terms of geotechnical engineering", she concluded.
