LNEC welcomed two groups of students from the Parede School Group, Cascais, for two study visits dedicated to seismic engineering.
After a brief presentation on LNEC's activities, the students visited the Seismic Engineering and Structural Dynamics Unit, where they had the opportunity to see some of the experimental equipment used to study the behaviour of structures during earthquakes.
One of the highlights of the visit was seeing the triaxial seismic table, which simulates ground movements and assesses the resistance of buildings and other structures, contributing to the development of solutions that increase the safety of buildings.
The initiative brought secondary school students closer to the scientific work carried out at LNEC and showed how civil engineering research contributes to making cities safer and more resilient.
