LNEC hosted the 2nd International Conference on CO₂ Mineralization in Construction Materials and Products (CMCMP2026), bringing together researchers, industry representatives, and decision-makers to discuss innovative solutions that contribute to the decarbonization of the construction sector. The initiative was organized in partnership with Hunan University (China) and the Asian Concrete Federation.

During the opening session, LNECs President Laura Caldeira highlighted the importance of international cooperation in accelerating the transition to more sustainable construction, emphasizing that reducing carbon emissions is one of the greatest challenges facing the sector.

In her remarks, Laura Caldeira noted that concrete is one of the most widely used materials worldwide, but that its production is associated with a high environmental footprint. In this context, she pointed to carbon dioxide mineralization as one of the most promising technologies for transforming captured CO₂ into a value-added resource by permanently incorporating it into construction materials.

The president of LNEC also argued that collaboration between researchers, industry, and public entities will be crucial to transforming these new solutions into standard practices in the construction sector.
