LNEC hosted the international conference “Ocean and Human Health”, organised by the Portuguese National Committee for the UN Decade of Ocean Science (CNDO) under the auspices of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021–2030.

The conference brought together experts from a wide range of fields — including marine sciences, medicine, public health, social sciences, as well as representatives from public policy and the private sector — with the aim of exploring and discussing the intrinsic link between ocean health and human health. Key topics included the benefits of oceans for human well-being, the impacts of climate change and marine pollution on global health, and the role of marine systems in food security and the resilience of coastal communities.

As part of the conference programme, LNEC researcher Marta Rodrigues presented a communication on the importance of digital tools in supporting coastal management, emphasising the role of technological solutions in the monitoring, planning and sustainable management of coastal zones.
