LNEC and ISEC Lisboa launched the PROCOAST-3D project: Coastal Protection Structures: 3D Physical Modeling in Climate Change Scenarios, which aims to reinforce coastal protection through new methodologies to predict the performance of breakwaters in the event of extreme weather phenomena. Using physical models in three dimensions, the project will test the behavior of these structures and help plan their repair and maintenance, promoting greater safety and durability.
Using artificial concrete blocks, widely used in coastal structures in Portugal, PROCOAST-3D aims to create new models that predict erosion in these areas. This approach can support strategic decisions, allowing coastal infrastructure to be more resilient and effective in relation to the impact of climate change.
PROCOAST-3D also directly contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDGs 9, 11 and 13, which promote the construction of resilient infrastructure, sustainable cities and the fight against climate change.
