The iCOAST project: Innovation ecosystems for climate resilience in high-risk coastal communities, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and National Funds through the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), is coordinated by the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra and as partners the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Coimbra and the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering, through the Estuaries and Coastal Zone Unit.

The project aims to contribute to increasing the resilience of coastal communities to the challenges caused by the impact of climate change through the implementation of a Coastal Resilience Living Lab (CR-LL).

Anchored in the identification of barriers that prevent citizen involvement in risk management processes, main challenges and needs faced by communities, and scenarios of exposure to the risk of erosion and flooding, the CR-LL will enable the creation of an innovation ecosystem involving all stakeholders in the development of community-led solutions to coastal risks.
