LNEC welcomed 15 students from the History of Science program at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon for a field trip designed to provide them with a firsthand look at the scientific and technological work carried out at the Laboratory. The session began with a general presentation of LNEC, accompanied by a screening of the institutional film, which provided context for LNEC’s mission, research areas, and influence on society.
This was followed by a tour of various departments and research units. At the Construction Behavior and Technology Unit, the students were able to understand how materials, construction solutions, and building performance are investigated, with a special focus on restoration work using older materials. The visit continued at the Center for Seismic Engineering and Structural Dynamics, including stops at the Wind Tunnel and the Seismic Platform, two nationally renowned facilities that sparked great curiosity.
It was with great pleasure that LNEC welcomed these future historians of science, and we wish them the greatest academic success.
