The seminar “Expanded Clay: Sustainability and Resilience in Geotechnical Solutions” was held at LNEC, jointly organised by LNEC and Leca Portugal, with institutional support from the Portuguese Geotechnical Society (SPG), the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) and the Order of Engineers (OE).

The event brought together 110 participants, representing 52 companies and institutions, reflecting the growing interest in the application of expanded clay in more sustainable and resilient engineering solutions. The seminar promoted a constructive debate between experts from research centres, universities, companies and public entities. Case studies, applied research and design criteria involving expanded clay were presented in contexts such as foundations on soft soils, road and railway embankments, slopes and urban rehabilitation. Among the works highlighted was the PEDLER project, currently underway at CEDEX - Centro de Estudios y Experimentación de Obras Públicas - in which LNEC has been collaborating. 

The meeting provided an opportunity for technical updating and closer ties between the academic and professional communities. LNEC was represented on the Organising Committee by researchers Andrea Brito, from the Geotechnics Department, and André Paixão, from the Transport Department.
