This is the second episode of the official podcast for the LNEC Lisbon Conference 2026, which takes place on 21 and 22 October, focusing on the central theme "Dams and the energy transition".
In this second episode of the official podcast, António Batista, Chairman of the Organising Committee, emphasises that the aim of the event is to promote a wide-ranging and multidisciplinary discussion, involving society, academia and industry. The conference comes at a critical juncture, when the challenges of managing intermittent renewable sources, such as solar and wind power, highlight the need for energy storage solutions – a role in which cascade hydroelectric schemes and pumped-storage systems are key to ensuring the balance and security of the electricity grid.
The modernisation and resilience of infrastructure are fundamental pillars, bringing to the fore topics such as digitalisation, BIM and adaptation to climate change. The LLC promises to be a pivotal meeting point for charting a course forward and reaffirming the role of engineering in the service of society.
