Today we bring you the 8th episode of the official LNEC Lisbon Conference 2026 podcast.

In this episode, we spoke to Dr Franco Caruso, Sustainability and Communities Director at BRISA Group, about the energy transition, transport decarbonisation and the future of road infrastructure.

With a target of reducing emissions by 60% by 2030, BRISA is investing in fleet electrification, energy efficiency and renewable energy generation. Electric mobility also requires a fast and reliable charging network: the company currently operates 284 fast and ultra-fast charging points across a network of approximately 1,100 kilometres.

Our interview also explores the role of digitalisation, artificial intelligence and vehicle–infrastructure connectivity in creating smarter, safer and more efficient motorways. As Franco Caruso states, “it is important to look at all of this as a system”.

The future of mobility will depend on greater integration between energy, technology, vehicles and infrastructure — a transformation that, according to BRISA’s representative, will only be possible “through partnership and collaboration”.

The LNEC Lisbon Conference 2026, dedicated to dams and the energy transition, will take place on 21 and 22 October.
