Within the scope of VET4Hydro - Vocational Education and Training partnership for Hydropower, and after a course on Hydraulic Utilization at LNEC, students from Cape Verde and Mozambique had the opportunity to make a technical visit to the Laboratory, more specifically to the Cementitious Materials Unit, to the Modelling and Rock Mechanics Unit, to the Ports and Maritime Structures Unit and, finally, to the Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics Unit.
VET4Hydro is an ERASMUS+ project funded by the European Union, whose main objective is to develop teaching skills and enhance the learning process among partners. Additionally, it aims to allow access to the most recent developments in the area of hydraulic energy production, aligned with the needs of the job market.
With a particular interest in hydraulic components, students were very excited about the irregular wave channel - an experimental marine hydraulics facility, created in May 1971 at LNEC. Here they also had contact with stability tests, shaking, overtopping, and moving bottom.
During the visit they also explored technological innovations linked to sustainable energy and learned about the latest materials being tested for seismic isolation. The visit and the course helped students adopt new methodologies in their areas of expertise.
