The CONNECT+ Final Workshop – Coastal Forecasting and Monitoring in the Algarve Region took place on 29 June at the University of Algarve.
The event brought together researchers, technical experts and representatives from organisations involved in coastal management and monitoring to present the main results of the CONNECT+ project, coordinated by LNEC in partnership with the University of Algarve, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, and the University of Évora. The project has extended the CONNECT coastal service to the Algarve region. The programme included presentations on the Copernicus Marine Service, case studies on the Ria Formosa and the Albufeira coastal area, as well as a live demonstration of the CONNECT coastal service portal.
The round table, entitled "Coastal Forecasting and Monitoring in the Algarve Region", fostered discussion on the challenges and opportunities for coastal management, with the participation of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), Águas do Algarve, Formosa – Ria Formosa Shellfish Farmers' Cooperative, and the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
The CONNECT coastal service provides forecasts and observations of physical and water quality parameters for Portuguese coastal areas, supporting the protection of coastal waters and the sustainable development of the blue economy.
