        Introduction

        Research and Innovation Strategy: E2I 21-27

        The research and innovation activity carried out at LNEC has been framed by strategic plans, developed along lines of research considered to be a priority because of their interest in society. This activity is currently framed by a seven-year Research and Innovation Strategy, closely aligned with funding cycles, namely the Horizon Europe EU funding program.

        LNEC's legal framework, its mission and the history of its action in all areas of activity, with the resulting perception of LNEC's potential contribution to meeting society's research and innovation (R&I) needs, form an essential basis for defining the Research and Innovation Strategy.

        It is also important to analyse the context in which research and innovation activities are carried out in areas related to LNEC's mission. This analysis is carried out within the national, European, international, and LNEC's frameworks, and constitutes Part I of the E2I (E2I 21-27).

        The strategic definition, presented in Part II, comprises:

        - A brief overview of LNEC's activities;

        - An explanation of the main guidelines for R&I activity;

        - The strategic concept, structured based on a research and innovation cycle;

        - The establishment of objectives, indicators, and targets.

        Part III of this document presents the Action Plan for implementing the strategic definition of R&I.
