        Structural Behaviour

        The Structural Behaviour Laboratory (UCEst) is part of the Structural Behaviour Unit, which is integrated in the Structures Department of LNEC.

        Its origin dates back to the 1950s, then known as the Structural Testing Laboratory. In addition to the accumulated experience and know-how, the variety and capacity of the experimental equipment make this a highly versatile unit.

        Additional information can be found in this laboratory's flyer.

        Activity areas

        UCEst develops its main activity in the mechanical characterization of structural materials, products and systems through load tests.

        Testing

        UCEst performs, among others, the following mechanical characterization tests:

        Structural products

        •     various tests on precast reinforced concrete/prestressed concrete;
        •     compression test on manholes and its covers;
        •     various tests on insulating panels;
        •     compression, slip and distortion tests on structural bearing devices;
        •     compression, bending and tensile tests on various products;
        •     scaffold tests;
        •     tests on prestressing systems;
        •     tests on roof panels.

        Structural systems

        •     tests on structural joints;
        •     vertical and diagonal compression test on masonry walls;
        •     pull-out test on reinforcement bars for reinforced concrete;
        •     pull-out test on plugs for railway sleepers.

        Other services

        In addition to these characterization tests, UCEst also develops activities in many other areas such as:

        •     research and development of structural materials, products and systems;
        •     support to the construction sector.
