        CT 156 - Geotechnics in civil engineering


        ACTIVITY


        The Technical Standardization Committee No. 156 (CT 156) aims to monitor national, European, and international standardization activities related to all aspects of Civil Engineering involving Geotechnics. The activity of CT 156 covers the following subdomains:

        • Geotechnical and hydrogeological prospecting;
        • Characterization of soils and rocks (including laboratory and field tests);
        • Construction technologies and systems;
        • Testing of geotechnical structures;
        • Observation of geotechnical works.

        CT 156 has been headquartered since 2002 at the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC), recognized by the Portuguese Institute for Quality (IPQ) as the Sectoral Standardization Body (ONS) in the aforementioned domain. CT 156 began, at that time, the monitoring of European and international standardization activity.


        MONITORING OF EUROPEAN AND INTERNATIONAL NORMATIVE ACTIVITY


        CT 156 monitors the European normative activity developed by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), and the international normative activity developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), in the following technical committees:

        • CEN/TC 288 Execution of Special Geotechnical Works
        • CEN/TC 341 Geotechnical Investigation and Testing
        • ISO/TC 182 Geotechnics

        STRUCTURE


        Currently, CT 156 is organized into 4 Subcommittees (SC):

        • SC 08: Laboratory Tests and Soil Classification
        • SC 09: Prospecting, Field Tests, and Observation
        • SC 10: Testing of Geotechnical Structures and Execution of Special Geotechnical Works
        • SC 11: Laboratory Tests and Rock Classification (still inactive)

        The work of producing and analyzing normative documents is done mainly at the Subcommittee level, and additional information can be obtained in the presentation document of the activity of the CT 156 Subcommittees.

        CT 156 has the following composition:
