        Head of the Structures Behavior Division since 2013.

        Head of the Timber Division, 1997-2013.


        MAIN AREAS OF RESEARCH/INTEREST

        Structural health assessment and diagnosis of old buildings.

        Monitoring, safety assessment, and strengthening of timber structures.

        Performance and durability of timber structural members and joints.

        Technical assessment of construction products and industrialized building systems


        ACTIVITY

        Technical consultancy, mostly in the areas of monitoring, performance assessment, safety and strengthening of timber structures, and applied research to support innovation, development, and certification of construction products.

        Participation in national and European research projects, namely on: i) mechanical timber joints and structural reinforcement techniques; ii) behaviour of glued joints and structural members and composite building systems.

        Lecturing and supervision in Master or Doctoral studies, mainly in the following areas: production, behaviour, and health assessment/monitoring of glued laminated timber structures; composite timber-concrete floors; structural timber joints; strengthening and repair of timber structures; timber building systems, fire resistance of structural timber joints, fire reaction and passive fire protection of timber constructions.

        Participation in COST European Scientific Coordination Networks, namely: E34 "Bonding of timber”, E55 "Modelling the performance of timber structures”; IE0601 "Wood Science for Conservation of Cultural Heritage"; FP1004 "Enhance mechanical properties of timber and timber structures"; FP1101 "Assessment, Reinforcement and Monitoring of Timber Structures"; FP1402 "Basis of structural timber design - From research to standards".

        Member of the Portuguese Standardization Body (IPQ) – Technical Committees CT14 (Timber) and TC115 (Structural Eurocodes). Involvement in the activity of CEN Technical Committee CEN/TC 250/SC5 – Eurocode 5: Design of timber structures.
