The CE marking of construction products is currently governed by Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 of the European Parliament and the Council of 9 March 2011, commonly known as the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), which came into full force on 1 July 2013.
This regulation repealed Council Directive 89/106/EEC of 21 December 1988, known as the Construction Products Directive (CPD), which previously governed this marking.
Since the early 2000s, LNEC has made detailed and up-to-date information on the CPD and CE marking available on its website. Given the changes in procedures it introduced to the previous practice, this has proved very useful for the various construction agents. The national technical community has also acquired relevant information on the subject due to a wide range of publicity activities organised by various organisations over the years.
Although the CPR has introduced some changes to the practice resulting from the CPD, LNEC decided to reduce the information made available on its Portal because it considers that the knowledge of the national technical environment on the subject is greater and very important. After all, the CPR is directly applicable in the Member States (it does not require the publication of national transposition laws), and therefore, the existing information on this regulation in Portugal and other EU countries does not differ significantly.
On the other hand, the European Commission also provides relevant information on the Regulation on its website, specially dedicated to the CPR, where you can obtain the brochure entitled The CE marking of construction products step by step, whose consultation is recommended.
