Geotechnics Department

The Geotechnics Department (DG) carries out research and provides expert and scientific support in the following areas: Engineering Geology (site studies and geological risks); natural geological and hydrogeological patrimony (slopes, cliffs, caverns, geotechnical risks, collapse phenomena and environmental preservation); geotechnical built patrimony (building and bridge foundations, earth dams and corresponding foundations, tailings dams, infrastructure embankments, slopes, excavations, strengthening of foundations, soil retaining walls and structures, hydraulic containment structures, harbour structures, reinforcement, improvement and treatment of soils, tunnels and other underground works and solid waste fills); and environment (soil contamination, evaluation of environmental impacts and waste reuse).
