As part of the LIFE-GARACHICO European project, members of LNEC's Ports and Maritime Structures Unit were in the Municipality of Praia da Vitória, on Terceira Island, from 5-7 February, to carry out surveys of the population and to take part in a series of meetings with stakeholders in the region, namely: the Municipality of Praia da Vitória, the Praia da Vitória Municipal Civil Protection Service, the Praia da Vitória Volunteer Fire Brigade and Portos dos Açores, SA.

These meetings aimed to establish partnerships and acquire information on the guidelines to be adopted in emergencies arising from coastal flooding. The survey aimed to analyse the local population's perception of coastal flooding events and their position on the potential implementation of measures to reduce the impact of these events.
