Areas of Research / Interest

Stability and overtopping of coastal structures (scale model tests). Databases (Development of a database concerning storage and analysis of data coming from the inspection of costal structures). Photogrammetric Methods in order to measure armour layer erosion in scale model tests.

Research and Professional Activity

Has twenty-five years of experience in the maritime hydraulics area, mainly in physical modeling. Participated in more than 63 marine structures scale model tests studies.Developed a database in MS Access for storing and analysing data from systematic observation of marine works (ANOSOM) applied in Portugal (mailnad and Azores) and more recently, Morocco. Has developed methodologies for the application of photogrammetry to envelope survey of rubble-mound breakwaters scale model tests. Participated in scientific research projects, including the MEDIRES, HYDRALAB III and IV HYDRALAB projects and, currently, in the HYDRALAB+ and in thr PROTOCOL projects.

Scientific Orientation

Advisor of three final degree internships (FCT / UNL) and co-advisor of five integrated master's thesis (ISEL and FCT/UNL and LUSÓFONA).
