Numerical Modelling of the Hydrodynamic Response of a Fixed Dual-Chamber Oscillating Water Column Wave Energy Converter Through the Meshless DualS Hysics Method
A numerical model of a dual-chamber Oscillating Water Columns (OWC)Wave Energy Converter (WEC) is built through the DualSPHysics software. Thiscode is based on the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) model, a Lagrangianmeshless method where particles represent the flow, interact with structures, andexhibit large deformation with moving boundaries. A one phase approach

One step from the deep ocean: Linking research and governance for the Tagus river estuary and the Lisbon canyon system
Ministry of the Sea promoted an expert conference to discuss the currentstate of the Tagus river estuary and adjacent oceanic areas and to promotefuture action. The Tagus river estuary shapes the Lisbon MetropolitanArea, bordering 11 water-facing municipalities across 320 km2(among the largest in Europe and critically positioned along the North-South bird migration corridor of the East Atlantic [1]). It communicateswith the deep North Atlantic through the Tagus submarine prodelta andthe Lisbon/Cascais/Setúbal canyon system (Fig. 1). This proximity allowsinteraction of water masses and biological communities betweenthe estuary and the deep ocean and deserves scientific attention. The conference integrated perspectives on current threats, aftermillennia of human occupation and decades of local efforts to improveenvironmental status and contributed towards an action plan to maintainor improve ecosystem services for this densely populated area, following an ecosystem stewardship framework [2].

Physical and Mechanical Properties of Reinforced Concrete from 20th-Century Architecture Award-Winning Buildings in Lisbon (Portugal): A Contribution to the Knowledge of Their Evolution and Durability
The use of concrete materials in Portugal, namely reinforced concrete, began in the 19th century. However, during the 20th century, the increase in the application of this composite material, alongside the use of hydraulic binders, led to a disruption of traditional construction techniques and enhanced generalized application in concrete structures, combining aesthetics with functionality. In this paper, the authors will present and discuss several physical and mechanical characteristics of reinforced concrete materials from 12 award-winning architectural buildings constructed between the 1930s and the end of the 20th century in Lisbon, Portugal. These results are vital to evaluate their durability, as those buildings have an undiscussable heritage value in the context of 20th-century buildings

Physical and Numerical Modeling Study of a Submerged Detached Breakwater at Praia da Vagueira, Portugal: Surfing Conditions
The National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (Portugal) is undertaking a characterization and feasibility study of a multifunctional submerged detached breakwater (SDB) in front of Praia da Vagueira, in the central West coast of Portugal, for the Portuguese Environment Agency, I.P. (APA). It is intended that the SDB is multifunctional, contributing to create conditions to promote surfing waves, boosting the economy associated with this activity in the area. A physical and numerical modeling study was developed to investigate the influence of a SDB (considering the SDB parallel to the coastline, SDB 0º, and the SDB with a 45º angle to the coastline, SDB 45º) in the surfing conditions on the study area. The results show that: without structure, a spilling wave breaker occurs near the coastline, with peel angles adequate for beginners; for the SDB 0º a plunging wave breaks along the structure, with small peel angles, not adequate for surfing; and for the SDB 45º a plunging wave breaks over and past the structure, with peel angles between 40º-50º, promoting surfing conditions for intermediate and professional surfers.

Powdered activated carbon full-scale addition to the activated sludge reactor of a municipal wastewater treatment plant: Pharmaceutical compounds control and overall impact on the process
Powdered activated carbon (PAC) dosing to a conventional activated sludge (AS) reactor is a low-investment option for controlling pharmaceutical compounds (PhCs) in municipal wastewater treatment, but its advantages and limitations in real operating environments are not fully assessed. A 3-week PAC-AS full-scale test was conducted in an oxidation ditch plant to assess PAC impact on effluent quality (PhCs, dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and other parameters), energy consumption, sludge production and costs. DOC-normalized PAC doses of 0.7
