The main function of the Department of Hydraulics and Environment is to coordinate the scientific and technical activities developed by its operating units, including the external representation of the Department.
In addition to these functions, it directly coordinates several strategic projects for the sector, being noteworthy the establishment of the International Water Center LIS-Water, on public policies, regulation of water services and water resources.
The researchers from the DHA coordination team are also involved in two research and innovation projects.
It assures the external representation of the DHA in several national and international fora, among which are the following:

Water4All-Water Security for the planet
The Water4All Partnership - Water Security for the Planet - is co-funded by the European Union within the frame of the Horizon Europe programme (a key funding programme for research and innovation). The Partnership duration is for seven years from 2022. The objectives are to tackle water challenges as means to face climate change, help to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and boost the EU’s competitiveness and growth.

B-WaterSmart - Accelerating Water Smartness in Coastal Europe
B-WaterSmart is a H2020 project
submitted to the call "CE-SC5-04-2019 - Building a water-smart economy
and society" by ARC (European Water Research Institutes) and
funded by the EC in 15 M€. It enroles 35 EU
partners, is coordinated by IWW (Germany) and is structured in
8 Work Packages. WP1 - "Co-create & demonstrate systemic
innovation in six living labs" is coordinated by
LNEC. It is grounded on 6 living labs in 6 EU
cities or regions: Alicante (Spain), Bodø
(Norway), East Frisia (Germany), Flandres (Belgium), Lisboa
(Portugal) and Venice (Italy). LNEC is the scientific
mentor of the Lisbon Living Lab.
It is a 4-year project, running from
