This work presents the new developments and the validation of a SmoothedParticle Hydrodynamics (SPH) numerical model used in the NationalLaboratory of Civil Engineering (Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil- LNEC) for studies in coastal engineering processes. Although the modelrequires a high CPU time, it proved to be very promising in the simulationof complex flows, such as the wave-structure interaction and the wavebreaking phenomenon. The vortex-induced vibration (VIV) phenomenon has drawn the attention ofresearchers in Engineering for several decades. An example is the riser usedfor petroleum exploration, in which it is subjected to marine flows that maycause oscillations due to vortex shedding. In this paper, numerical analysesof the phenomena that occur in the interaction among flows at low Reynoldsnumbers and elastically mounted cylinders are presented. The simulation iscarried out by using the numerical model Ifeinco that uses a semi-implicittwo-step Taylor-Galerkin method to discretize the Navier-Stokes equationsand the arbitrary Lagrangean-Eulerian formulation to follow the cylindermotion. The rigid body motion description is calculated by using theNewmark method. Firstly, the characteristics of the vortex generationprocess for the fixed cylinder are analyzed. In this case, the Strouhalnumber, the mean drag and the RMS lift coefficients for Reynolds numbersranging from 90 to 140 are shown. Afterwards, an analysis of a flexiblesupported cylinder (with a spring and a damper) in transverse directionsubject to flows with Reynolds numbers ranging from 90 to 140 is carriedout. The cylinder displacement and the vibration frequencies are studied;the synchronization between the vortex shedding and the vibrationfrequency (lock-in) is analyzed. Similar results to the experimental onesdeveloped by Anagnostopoulos and Bearman (1992) were obtained in thisstudy.

Coastal waters are an integral part of the natural environment. Careful planning and management is needed to protect andconserve them, and to ensure that the water supply is useful for a variety of uses.Submarine outfalls for effluent disposal are used to ensure that the water quality is maintained and that the environmental valuesand water uses are protected.Decision on treatment and disposal is based on objectives set by national and international legislation and on coastal and maritimeuses identification.An operational forecast methodology is proposed for the management of submarine outfalls providing information to deal with themarine environment problems and to satisfy needs at different levels for coastal communities.From a management perspective the forecast methodology will support decision making by predicting where a discharged plume islikely to be transported over a few days from its last known location.Short-term forecasts of maritime climate and hydrological conditions along with foreseen effluent characteristics (depending onseasons and population equivalent) of the studied region are used for an accurate estimation of the effluent plume advection anddiffusion processes near the coastline.The operational forecast methodology, continuously evaluating the plume behavior and its relation with the protection perimeter(identified through a coastal usage map), allows the implementation of a precautionary and adjustable management of thesubmarine outfall. Corrective measures (e.g. increase dilution, increase the number of outlets, increase outflow speed) may avoidpossible operational disruptions and minimize potential water quality impacts.To illustrate the application of the procedure, a submarine outfall case study located in the Portuguese coast is analysed.

Neste trabalho é analisado um dispositivo de extração de energia das ondas do tipo coluna de água oscilante sob a ação de ondas regulares de diferentes períodos. São realizadas variações no comprimento submerso da parede frontal e no comprimento da câmara. Para tal é utilizado o código numérico FLUINCO, o qual é baseado nas equações RANS e a discretização é realizada utilizando o método semi-implícito de Taylor-Galerkin de dois passos. Uma formulação lagrangeana-euleriana arbitrária (ALE) é utilizada para permitir a solução de problemas que envolvem movimentos da superfície livre. Alguns resultados são comparados com os obtidos utilizando o programa FLUENT. São apresentados a amplificação (relação entre a altura da onda incidente a e dentro da câmara), distribuição das velocidades e vetores de velocidade.

This paper describes an application of theBoussinesq-type COULWAVE model to study the wavehydrodynamics in the vicinity of a multi-functional artificialreef (MFAR). This reef is under investigation and consists ofa supplementary protection solution for the Leirosa sanddune system located at South of Figueira da Foz, on thePortugueseWest coast. Such installation near the coastline isexpected to contribute to enhance the surfing conditions inthe area, protect the sand dune system in the surroundings ofLeirosa beach, and increase its environmental value.Numerical calculations with the COULWAVE model wereperformed for four test cases, considering two reef geometries(differing in the reef angle) and two incident waveconditions (storm condition and a common wave condition).Comparisons between the results obtained, in terms of waveheights and breaking line positions allow us to assess theinfluence of the reef on the hydrodynamics near the beachand around the reef. Moreover, the reef performance wasanalysed in terms of surfability and coastal protection. Thesurfability parameters (breaker height, Iribarren number andpeel angle) were calculated for each test case using thenumerical wave heights, wave directions and wave breakingpositions. Comparisons of parameters allow characterizingthe most appropriate configuration of the reef to improve thesurfing conditions in the study area. A methodology basedon numerical free surface elevations and horizontal velocitycomponents was developed to calculate wave directions,since this is not a direct output of the COULWAVE model.Concerning coastal protection, analyses of the mean currentsaround the reef were used together with observationsof the velocity cells near the shoreline as an indication of thesediment transport.

The knowledge of wave transformation and breaking characteristics nearcoastline is essential for the nearshore hydrodynamics and the design ofcoastal structures. This paper describes a wide range of wave flume testsperformed at the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC),located in Lisbon (Portugal), which main objective was to study waveshoaling and breaking over a set of different gentle slopes for severalincident waves and thus to contribute for a better understand of thehydrodynamics of wave transformation.The experimental conditions, the measurement equipment, the incidentwave characteristics, the type of measurements performed (free surfaceelevation and particle velocity) and the data obtained are described. Timeand spectral analysis based upon the measured data are also performed andpresented. For a regular wave with a period of 1.5s and a height of 0.1m arepresented and discussed the following results: free surface elevation atselected sections along the flume; the spectral analysis; the significant waveheight and average period along the flume; the particle velocity componentsat different locations along the flume; the average, maximum and minimumvalues of the longitudinal component of the velocity along the flume; thetwo dimensional distribution of the three components of the velocity; andlongitudinal velocity component vertical profiles.

Neste trabalho, analisa-se o desempenho do modelo numérico SWAN (Booij et al., 1999) na caracterização da agitação marítima na zona costeira da praia da Amoreira, em Aljezur, Algarve. Para este efeito, efectua-se uma análise comparativa entre as medições de agitação marítima realizadas na Praia da Amoreira e as estimativas produzidas por esse modelo. Assim, partindo dos resultados do modelo regional de previsão da agitação marítima, WAVEWATCH III, Tolman (1999, 2002), para os dias em que foram realizadas as medições in-situ, efectuaram-se cálculos com o modelo SWAN, obtendo-se nos locais de medição valores de altura significativa, período de pico e período médio. A comparação das simulações numéricas com os dados medidos permitiu avaliar o desempenho do modelo numérico e reforçar a confiança que já existia neste modelo na sua utilização em estudos de morfodinâmica e dinâmica costeira.

This paper applies two numerical models, REFDIF and SWAN, to characterize the wave climate near the coastalstretch between Galinhos and Guamaré, Brazil. This region is exposed both to incoming swell from NorthAtlantic Ocean and to local seas generated by steady SE Trade Winds, tidal currents are strong, and beachmorphology is very dynamic. Both models were applied to the propagation of different wave conditions, fromoffshore to the coastline of Galinhos-Guamaré. The following incident wave conditions were considered: periodsbetween T=5 s and 13 s, deep water heights between H=0.8 m and 2.4 m, and off-shore directions between N-60-W (60º) and N-60-E (60º). A total of 1053 simulations were performed for the incident wave conditions for eachmodel. The results consist on the wave heights and wave directions of study area. It is also analyzed the results atpoints over the bathymetric line of -8 m (CD). A comparative analysis of the results obtained with each modelpermit to assess their suitability for this area and evaluate their limitations and potentialities

Coastal vegetation can contribute to protect the coasts from sea wave action, as controlling local biology and morphodynamics. A common way to estimate the wave energy dissipation over vegetation is to use the Mendez and Losada (2004) analytical formulation in combination with the calibrated bulk drag coefficient parameter (CD). However, an excessive range of CD values is found in the literature related to same Reynolds (Re) or Keulegan-Carpenter (KC) numbers. This may be due to a lack of universality of the empirical equations proposed and/or limitations of the analytical model. The numerical model SWASH (Zijlema et al., 2011) characterises wave dissipation over vegetation fields (Suzuki et al., 2019, 2022; Reis et al., 2020) considering the influence of the drag, inertia, and porous effects on cylindrical structures. Potentially, SWASH offers enhanced capacities to describe the physical processes involved and to calibrate associated CD values. Wave dissipation over vegetation data was collected by performing laboratory flume experiments, enabling an ideal control of the study conditions. The analytical formulation and the SWASH numerical model are applied to estimate the wave dissipation obtained in the experiments, through the calibration of the CD.The objective of this study is to investigate: i) how the analytical and SWASH models can represent the experimental wave dissipation, and ii) the calibrated CD values obtained from each modelling approach.

Aquatic vegetation in the littoral zone, particularly seagrass, is gaining increasing recognition for its net positive impact on the hosting environment. This recognition is rooted in its capacity to absorb wave energy, regulate water flow, and manage nutrient levels, sedimentation and accretion. Thus, there is a growing interest in integrating seagrass as a key component of a comprehensive climate-conscious strategy (Ondiviela et al., 2014). An effective approach to quantify the positive potential of seagrasses in altering coastal wave dynamics is by using numerical models. These numerical models operate at various spatio- temporal scales, ranging from large domains and multiple years to just a few regular waves in high resolution CFD numerical simulations. Zeller et al. (2014) classified these models, operating at different scales into three categories, each addressing the wave-vegetation interaction at a distinct scale: (1) blade scale, (2) meadow scale, and (3) ecosystem scale. The aim of the present study is to investigate the interaction between waves and vegetation at the blade scale. The primary objectives are two: first, to introduce a direct numerical technique that involves a two-way coupling between a fluid solver and a structural solver, and second, to present novel experimental data for a single flexible cylinder (Reis, 2022) serving as validation for the present (and future) numerical model(s).

This communication describes the methodologies applied in the conception, implementation, andanalysis of a set of surveys on the risk perception of coastal flooding, carried out in the community ofPraia da Vitória (Azores, Terceira Island, Portugal).This work is part of the project LIFE-GARAC HICO* (LIFE20 CCA/ES/001641), whose objectiveis to create a Flexible Adaptation Strategic Framework for the coastal municipalities of Macaronesia, toincrease the resilience of these areas in face of current and future (considering climate change impacts)coastal extreme events. The project follows a co-participatory approach, to promote awareness amongthe population and increase reliability in coastal risk management. Indeed, involving all the existentstakeholders is the first step in promoting a democratic risk management, which in the end, leads to aresilience increase, in the face of global warming conditions.

Os efeitos das alterações climáticas aumentaram a necessidade de investigar a capacidade da vegetação em atenuar a força das ondas, nas zonas costeiras. Apoiando-se em modelação física, analítica e numérica da propagação de ondas sobre vegetação, este estudo teve como objetivos: i) analisar a diferença na dissipação de ondas sobre campos de vegetação rígida e flexível, ii) caracterizar o movimento de vegetação flexível, iii) estimar o coeficiente de arrasto de vegetação rígida e vegetação flexível, e iv) analisar a influência da flexibilidade (movimentoda vegetação) e da força de inércia no coeficiente de arrasto.

Na presente dissertação, desenvolveu-se uma metodologia para caracterização do movimento de um navio amarrado no interior de portos na presença de um campo de ondas. Esta metodologia consiste em utilizar vários modelos numéricos para caracterizar convenientemente: a) a propagação das ondas desde o largo até ao local de acostagem; b) a modificação das características das ondas no interior do porto; c) a ação das ondas sobre o navio; d) a resposta do navio; e) as forças resultantes no sistema de marração. Os modelos utilizados são:· SWAN: modelo não linear espectral para simular a propagação de ondas em zonas costeiras extensas;· DREAMS: modelo linear para simular a propagação de ondas em zonas costeiras abrigadas;· BOUSS-WMH: modelo não linear para simular a propagação de ondas regulares e irregulares em zonas costeiras abrigadas;· GMALHA: gerador de malhas de elementos finitos triangulares;· WAMIT®: que resolve, no domínio da frequência, os problemas de radiação e de difração na interação de um corpo flutuante livre com as ondas;· NPP: gerador de painéis planos sobre o casco do navio;· HYDRO: que transforma os resultados da interação do corpo flutuante livre com as ondas do domínio da frequência para o domínio do tempo;· BAS: que resolve as equações de movimento de um navio amarrado.O desempenho do modelo BOUSS-WMH, em situações de grande não linearidade, foi analisado através da simulação de quatro casos de teste também simulados em laboratório. O BOUSS-WMH provou ser um modelo robusto capaz de representar a deformação da superfície livre de forma adequada, embora, em zonas com forte não linearidade, tenha apresentado algumas limitações, nomeadamente na formaçãode harmónicas de ordem superior à terceira. Verificou-se que os resultados numéricos tendiam a sobrestimar os valores da altura de onda em zonas pouco profundas.Para minorar estas limitações e tornar o modelo mais robusto, fiável e adequado para ser aplicado em casos reais, foram adicionados e implementados novos termos às equações do modelo BOUSS-WMH, nomeadamente, a reflexão parcial, o atrito de fundo e a rebentação (fenómenos físicos inerentes às águas pouco profundas e zonas confinadas).A reflexão parcial foi implementada a partir da adição de um termo de viscosidade na equação de conservação da quantidade de movimento. O modelo com reflexão parcial foi aplicado a dois casos de teste, sendo um deles um caso real (Porto de Vila do Porto, ilha de Santa Maria, Açores), e os resultados foram comparados com medições em ensaios em modelo físico. Verificou-se que a implementação da reflexão parcial diminui em 44% o erro médio quadrático face à simulação com fronteiras totalmente refletoras.O atrito de fundo foi implementado a partir da adição de um termo representativo da tensão tangencial de fundo à equação de conservação da quantidade de movimento. O modelo com atrito de fundo foi aplicado a dois casos de teste, sendo um deles um caso real (Praia de Faro). Verificou-se que a introdução do atrito de fundo dissipa energia como pretendido e reduz as instabilidades numéricas.A rebentação foi implementada com a introdução de um termo de viscosidade turbulenta. Dois critérios distintos foram introduzidos para definir o início e o final da rebentação: a) FSA, baseado na aceleração da elevação da superfície livre; b) RTFN, baseado no número Froude relativo da cava. O modelo com rebentação foi aplicado a três casos de teste estudados em laboratório. A comparação dos resultados do modelo com as medições dos ensaios físicos permite dizer que, de um modo geral, o modelo numérico simula muito bem a localização da rebentação, bem como a dissipação de energia a ela associada. O critério de rebentação baseado no método de RTFN tende a sobrestimar a altura das ondas, mas apresenta índices de concordância maiores do que os obtidos com o critério FSA. A vantagem deste método reside no menor número de parâmetros a calibrar. Os resultados alcançados foram muito bons, dada a complexidade do fenómeno de rebentação das ondas e a simplicidade dos termos utilizados na sua modelação.O gerador GMALHA também foi alvo de melhoramentos nos algoritmos de geração, de forma a possibilitar a existência de ilhas no interior do domínio de cálculo.O modelo numérico WAMIT® foi desenvolvido para aplicações em mar aberto sem muitas estruturas refletoras próximas do navio. Todas as estruturas devem ser discretizadas, o que aumenta exponencialmente o esforço computacional exigido, e são obrigatoriamente totalmente reflectoras. Ora esta é uma limitação importante quando se está no interior de um porto, primeiro devido às dimensões e depois devido às fronteiras parcialmente refletoras. Assim, o modelo WAMIT® foi modificado de modo a incluir as características das ondas modeladas previamente com um dos modelos de propagação. Foram desenvolvidas duas novas rotinas HASK_D e HASK_B, respetivamente para o modelo linear DREAMS e para o modelo não linear BOUSS-WMH. Estas rotinas e as modificações ao modelo WAMIT® foram validadas com a aplicação a casos simples onde o modelo WAMIT® original também podia ser aplicado. A presença de um campo de ondas difratadas pela presença de uma estrutura fixa foi simulada com sucesso. Existem diferenças pouco significativas, principalmente nas altas frequências. Uma explicação para estas diferenças relaciona-se com o facto de que as ondas com períodos baixos apresentam maiores instabilidades numéricas à medida que diminui o número de pontos por comprimento de onda na malha de elementos finitos.Com o intuito de facilitar o tratamento da informação, que, num estudo deste género, tem um volume e complexidade consideráveis, foram desenvolvidas interfaces para cada um dos modelos e estes foram acoplados numa ferramenta integrada

Esta dissertação divide-se em duas partes principais, uma dedicada ao desenvolvimento e validação de um novo modelo numérico para a propagação de ondas fracamente não lineares com a inclusão da dissipação de energia por rebentação, e uma dedicada ao desenvolvimento de um sistema integrado de modelação da agitação marítima em zonas costeiras e portuárias, GUIOMAR, para a utilização simplificada de modelos de propagação de ondas e para o apoio à tomada de decisão em estudos de engenharia costeira (quer correntes, quer situações de emergência).Na primeira parte, as equações de Beji e Nadaoka (1997a,b), são extendidas de forma a incluírem dissipação de energia por rebentação, através da consideração das tensões de Reynolds na equação da conservação da quantidade de movimento e da dedução de uma formulação alternativa da equação não linear de declive suave dependente do tempo. O modelo desenvolvido neste trabalho é aplicado a três testes de ensaios em modelo físico, que abrangem praias de declive constante e um perfil barra-fossa. Os testes efectuados permitiram seleccionar o critério de rebentação e definir regras para a determinação dos valores para as condições críticas de início e de fim da rebentação, calibrar o valor a atribuir ao parâmetro dos termos dissipativos e estabelecer regras para a sua definição, assim como para avaliar o desempenho do modelo. Foram obtidos bons resultados, embora o empolamento da onda tenha sido subestimado. Verificou-se uma estreita relação entre o valor a utilizar para a condição crítica de início da rebentação e a declividade da onda à entrada do domínio de cálculo, e entre o valor óptimo para o parâmetro dos termos dissipativos e o número de Ursell à entrada do domínio.Na segunda parte, apresenta-se a estrutura do sistema GUIOMAR, assim como as interfaces suas constituintes. O sistema GUIOMAR permite a utilização simplificada de modelos de agitação marítima, incluindo a construção, manipulação e visualização de dados e resultados. Estes factores contribuem para a sua afirmação como uma ferramenta de apoio à tomada de decisão em estudos de engenharia costeira e portuária. Foca-se também a avaliação das variabilidades de origem geográfica nos resultados dos modelos, nomeadamente as associadas à escala e resolução dos dados batimétricos utilizados, aos métodos de interpolação mais comuns e à subjectividade inerente à definição das linhas de costa. Da análise do comportamento dos modelos de agitação marítima constatou-se a necessidade de ter em atenção no respectivo estudo, aos dados de batimetria utilizados e às interpolações a que se recorre. São delineadas sugestões/recomendações para um futuro utilizador do sistema GUIOMAR aquando da utilização de métodos de interpolação.

Portugal is one of many countries in the world that suffers from coastal erosion.Conventional ways of protecting a coastline appear to entail some disadvantages. Aninnovative and interesting way of protecting a local coastal zone by means of multifunctionalartificial reefs avoids some of them. A multi-functional artificial reef is asubmerged breakwater which, besides the helping to protect the local coastline, canoffer other purposes; in particular, it may enhance the surfing possibilities and theenvironmental value of the local area. The structure has several positive side-effects:first, it provides an unimpaired visual amenity; second, it offers tourist and economicbenefits by improving the surfing conditions; third, it can enhance the environmentalvalue of the area where it is built, and fourth, with a proper design the down drifterosion can be minimal.An optimal reef design for the Leirosa beach, located to the south of Figueira da Foz,midway along the Portuguese West Atlantic coast, is investigated. In order to achievethis optimal design several steps were conducted. A preliminary design, as a result of atheoretical study, achieved step by step, is proposed for a multi-functional artificial reefmaking use of the theory and of the state of the art. The proposed reef geometry is usedas initial design in the numerical and physical tests, which were executed to analyze thecapacity of a multi-functional reef breakwater to protect the local coastline of Leirosa,Portugal, and to increase the local surfing possibilities. Further, a physical and anumerical 2DV study have been executed to get insight in the influence of the length ofthe reef and in the submergence on the Iribarren number, which is an indication for thebreaker type. In this study, also the optimum height for the reef has been defined.Subsequently, in order to be able to investigate the three design parameters: the reefangle, the geometry of the reef (with or without a platform) and the horizontaldimensions in 2DH for the optimal geometry, the Boussinesq-type COULWAVE modelwas validated; finally, a 2DH numerical study has been conducted with COULWAVEto define the best values for these parameters.In terms of surfability, and for the conditions of the local coastline of Leirosa, thefollowing values for the main parameters were found: a reef angle of 66°, a structureheight of 3.20 m, a reef geometry composed by a delta without platform, a reefsubmergence of 1.50 m and a structure seaward slope of 1:10.The calibration of the numerical model COULWAVE has shown that it can be usedvery well to simulate the hydrodynamics around an MFAR. However, improvementsare recommended on the actual version of COULWAVE. These improvements includemainly the introduction of bottom porous structures. Even though the mean velocityfields give an indication about the sediment transport, they are not sufficient to get a deep insight about the influence of an MFAR on the morphology around the structure.For a proper design of the reef, particularly for the protection of a local coastline, amorphological study has to be executed. / Portugal é um dos muitos países no mundo que sofre os efeitos adversos da erosãocosteira. É sabido que as formas convencionais de protecção costeira apresentamalgumas desvantagens. Uma forma particularmente interessante de proteger oucontribuir para a protecção local de um troço da zona costeira, minimizando algumasdas desvantagens das estruturas tradicionais, é através da construção de recifesartificiais multi-funcionais. Um recife artificial multi-funcional é um quebra-marsubmerso construído com objectivos de ajudar a proteger localmente a zona costeira eoferecer outras valências, nomeadamente, aumentar as possibilidades locais para aprática de surf e contribuir para a valorização ambiental da região.Um recife artificial com estas características apresenta diversos aspectos positivos. Comefeito, esta estrutura: (1) não tem qualquer impacto visual negativo; (2) oferece osbenefícios económicos resultantes da atracção turística, ao melhorar as condições locaispara práticas de surf e/ou outros desportos náuticos (mergulho e pesca); (3) permiteaumentar o valor ambiental da região, e (4) com um projecto adequado permite reduzirao mínimo os efeitos adversos da erosão local ou prolongar mesmo a praia por efeito detômbolo.Neste trabalho são investigados os parâmetros característicos de um recife artificialmulti-funcional, tendo como caso de estudo um troço da zona costeira da Leirosa,situado a cerca de 15 km a sul da Figueira da Foz, Portugal. Para obter as característicasóptimas da estrutura a construir foram realizados vários estudos ao longo de diversasetapas. Como resultado do estado da arte e de um estudo teórico, realizado passo apasso, é proposta uma geometria preliminar de recife artificial multi-funcional. Estageometria preliminar do recife é em seguida utilizada como projecto inicial de diversostestes em modelo numérico e em modelo físico para analisar a sua capacidade naprotecção da praia e do cordão dunar da Leirosa e, em simultâneo, analisar aspossibilidades locais para a prática de surf.Além dos testes realizados em modelo físico, foi efectuado um estudo numéricoutilizando o modelo 2DV COBRAS-UC para obter informações sobre a influência docomprimento do recife e da submersão do mesmo no número Iribarren, sendo este umparâmetro que fornece uma boa indicação do tipo de rebentação a esperar. Neste estudofoi igualmente investigada a altura ideal para o recife. Posteriormente, procedeu-se àvalidação de um modelo numérico 2DH do tipo Boussinesq, o modelo COULWAVE,tendo como objectivo analisar a influência de três parâmetros de projecto com particulardesenvolvimento no plano horizontal: o ângulo do recife, a geometria do recife (com ousem plataforma) e as suas dimensões horizontais. Uma vez validado, foi este modelo numérico utilizado para analisar a influência daqueles parâmetros e identificar os seusvalores mais adequados para a definição de uma geometria optimizada do recife.Em termos de características para a prática de surf, e para as condições locais do litoralda Leirosa, foram identificados os seguintes valores para os principais parâmetros: umaestrutura de recife com ângulo de 66º, altura de 3.20 m e uma geometria composta porum delta sem plataforma, uma submersão do recife de 1.50 m e um declive de barlamarda estrutura de 1:10.A calibração do modelo numérico COULWAVE mostrou que este pode ser usado comsucesso para simular a hidrodinâmica em torno de um recife artificial multi-funcional.No entanto, recomendam-se melhorias na actual versão deste modelo. Tais melhoriasincluem principalmente a possibilidade de modelação com fundos porosos. Embora oscampos da velocidade média forneçam uma primeira indicação sobre o transporte desedimentos, esta informação não é por si só suficientemente profunda para obterconclusões definitivas quanto à influência de uma estrutura com estas característicassobre a morfologia local. Para uma concepção mais adequada da estrutura final dorecife, em particular para efeitos de protecção costeira, deverá ser elaborado um estudomorfodinâmico.

The demonstration area will be one of the main focus points of TRA LISBON 2022, presenting multifunctional spaces and being prepared to receive a large number of different types of on-site demonstrations (indoor and outdoor). On-line demonstrations will also be an option, allowing for the widest possible coverage of access for all the participants.The dedicated areas will allow for interactive demonstrations of technological innovations to be carried out by and for industry partners, researchers, and other stakeholders. Demonstrations are an excellent opportunity to introduce conference attendees in an engaging way, as well as to promote new contacts and promising business.

According to the CSA project plan, WP5.2 task objective is to organize technical tours that feature attractive and interactive showcases aiming at engaging participants into novel technologies for all transport modes and enabling stakeholders and their companies to disseminate and even sell their products and applications to all interested parties.

This report is part of HYDRALAB+ Work Package 10, which seeks to strengthen the coherence of experimental hydraulic and hydrodynamic research undertaken by the HYDRALAB+ partner organisations. It outlines the work carried out by Samui Design & Management Ltd, supported by HR Wallingford, in relation to the development of a data repository structure that can be adopted by participants of the HYDRALAB+ project.

Reliable prediction of wave run-up/overtopping and structure damage is a key task in the design and safety assessment of coastal and harbor structures. Run-up/overtopping and damage must be below acceptable limits, both in extreme and in normal operating conditions, to guarantee the stability of the structure and the safety of people and assets on and behind the structure. The mean-sea-level rise caused by climate change and its effects on wave climate may increase the number and intensity of run-up/overtopping events and make the existing coastal/harbor structures more vulnerable to damage.Accurate estimates, through physical modelling, of the statistics of overtopping waves for a set of climate change conditions, are needed. The research project HYDRALAB+ (H2020-INFRAIA-2014-2015) gathers an advanced network of environmental hydraulic institutes in Europe, which provides access to a suite of environmental hydraulic facilities. They play a vital role in the development of climate change adaptation strategies, by allowing the direct testing of adaptation measures and by providing data for numerical model calibration and validation. The use of physical (scale) models allows the simulation of extreme events as they are now, and as they are projected to be under different climate change scenarios.The enclosed dataset refers to the experimental work developed at LNEC within HYDRALAB+ and considers 2D damage and overtopping tests for a rock armor slope, with four different approaches to represent storms. Data of free surface elevation, overtopping and damage is presented.

This deliverable is related to task 8.2

Neste relatório inicial são apresentadas a arquitetura e as caraterísticas gerais dos protótipos do sistema de previsão, alerta e gestão de riscos causados pela agitação marítima para os portos de Madalena do Pico, São Roque do Pico e Praia da Vitória. Os três protótipos em desenvolvimento têm por base uma arquitetura semelhante, com características distintas, nomeadamente no que respeita à localização dos dados de base, às malhas computacionais utilizadas e às características físicas das fronteiras, tanto no plano horizontal (interface terra-mar), como no vertical (batimetria dos fundos). Caracteriza-se o layout geral dos portos, bem como a sua morfologia e operabilidade.
