Lessons learnt from joint application of water-smartness dhasboardfor long-term strategic planning in the LLs.
This milestone aims at providing the lessons learnt from joint application of water-smartness dashboard for long-term strategic planning in the LLs, within the Innovation Alliance (InAll, Task 1.4). InAll provides a means for testing and validating the dashboard (developed within Task 3.9), both through the LL owners as the first users of the dashboard, as well as from meeting and discussions involving the leaders of the two referred tasks. This milestone describes (i) the approach followed to produce the feedback and lessons learnt from the dashboard use within InAll, including a brief explanation of the InAll and the strategic planning processes and an overview of the dashboard testing process, and (ii) the feedback on the dashboard, provided by the InAll LL problem-owners, as well as the lessons learnt.

RESTATE

Secondary roads
With the Strategic Action Plan for Road Safety for the 2021-2030 period, the European Union (EU) committed itself to halving the number of fatalities and serious injuries (MAIS 3+) when compared to the 2019 baseline. Considerable emphasis and concerns are put on improving road safety in urban areas, as well as reducing fatal and serious injuries on motorways and primary interurban roads. This is not surprising since these are also the roads that carry the bulk of traffic volumes in the EU. Notably, the publication of Directives 2008/96/EC and 2019/1936/EC set the stage for EU Member States (MS) to develop a comprehensive set of road infrastructure safety management (RISM) procedures that are applicable to these specific categories of roads. However, the Directives are not applicable to the remainder of the rural road network which provide a vital access and distribution function to road users. These secondary roads support crucial short to medium range journeys, often on long but low trafficked roads.This paper aims to help meeting the ambitious road safety targets of the EU by showing the important contribution of these secondary rural roads to the burden of road traffic injuries and fatalities, emphasizing the corresponding need for addressing specific road safety challenges, and highlighting various opportunities for advancing safety created by new technologies and consistent research and innovation.

Soft coastal protection measures for Langue de Barbarie and Saint Louis, Senegal - Dynamics and potential long-term evolution of the proposed solutions
This report presents the methodology and results of a study of the sediment dynamics and potential medium-term coastline evolution induced by hybrid-type coastal protection solutions for the Langue de Barbarie and the city of Saint-Louis, Senegal. The analysed solutions considered four designs of an artificial island, or a peninsula/spit connected to the mainland. The study includes gathering of study site data, preparation of model inputs, set-up and calibration of the shoreline evolution model ShorelineS, simulations of the potential coastal evolution for the proposed interventions, and critical and comparative analysis. The model succeeded in reproducing the main coastline modifications observed during the calibration period (2015 to 2019). It was found that any of the proposed hybrid solutions are likely to trigger substantial instabilities in the delicate sediment dynamics of Langue de Barbarie, eventually breaching this spit not far from the city of Saint-Louis. The analysis of alternative soft solutions led to similar conclusions.

The B-WaterSmart Innovation Alliance
The Innovation Alliance (InAll) of the B-WaterSmart (BWS) project was established across the project's six Living Labs (LLs): Alicante, Bodø, Flanders, Lisbon, East Frisia, and Venice. InAll constitutes a key co-production instrument of the B-WaterSmart project. It was designed for the primary problem-owners of the LLs to internalize and learn by doing how to use the B-WaterSmart objective-oriented assessment framework, developed in WP6, as a main tool for strategic planning on water smartness. This deliverable aims to provide the lessons learnt from the BWS InAll, including recommendations for case owners (follow-up beyond the project) and future users (replication).

Water-smart technologies and concepts
This deliverable is a synthesis report on the results of all the technologies in the different case studies within the B-Watersmart project. As the final report on the outcome of the technology demonstrations, it provides a public synthesized overview and encompasses all Living labs. The document begins by clarifying its objectives in the first section. Section 2 provides a concise description of the technologies applied in each living labs, the achieved results and the challenges encountered during implementation. It also provides lessons learnt for future implementation of the technologies in other places. Section 3 provides the description of the achieved and expected impacts of the technologies on the Living labs. Finally, section 4 summarizes the activities and presents the common trends, lessons learned are and overarching impacts, highlighting cross-cutting aspects and synergies of the different technologies.
