ECOMANAGE Integrated Ecological Coastal Zone Management System Deliverable 2.8 Groundwater modeling of the sedimentary aquifer on Santos Estuary basin using GIS mapping of hydrogeologic parameters
This report aims the presentation of the conceptual model, the mathematical model, and thecomputed results that allowed the quantification and mapping of the groundwater flow discharge, perkilometre of coastal line, towards Santos Estuary, in Brazil. The physical data of the Santos Estuary watershed is presented in terms of geology, hydrogeology, altimetry and precipitation. From the results it can be concluded that groundwater discharge to Santos Estuary depends onthe watershed location, area and land use. Flow discharge is lower on a well drained basin, becausegroundwater contributions are mainly to the drains. There is a high fresh water discharge to the AtlanticOcean, from Praia Grande and Santos area. Lower values are related with crystalline rock outcrop andsmall islands. Total groundwater discharge to the land-Estuary boundary from precipitation is about 8%,besides, other 17% flows as base flow to the drains. From the simulation it can be concluded that Boturoca watershed, São Vicente and Santo AmaroIsland are the main contributors of fresh water from the sedimentary aquifer to the estuary. The resultsshowed important groundwater discharges, higher from January to May. Lower discharges to theestuary were observed in Cubatão watershed. In this basin groundwater from the sedimentary aquiferflows to the drains and, afterwards as surface water, to the estuary.

Experimental study of reservoir turbidity currents - Development and application of data processing routines for velocity and bed profiles
This work describes the activities performed to support the realization of experiments thatsimulate the occurrence of a turbidity current in a reservoir. These experiments involved theutilization of an Ultrasonic Velocity Profiler (UVP) to measure the velocity of the current inthe form of instantaneous profiles and also a bed profiler to measure the thickness of thedeposits. As a result a set of routines programmed in Fortran90 and MATLAB languageshave been developed to facilitate the post processing and analysis of the data.

Loss estimations for a reference situation
This report addresses the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC) participation in Subproject 10 Earthquake disaster scenario predictions and loss modelling for urban areas. More precisely this report was developed in order to accomplish the 24 months LESSLOSS deliverable nº 85, which achieves loss estimates for the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon (MAL), for pre-defined scenarios earthquake. These loss estimations represent the reference situation to be compared with revised loss estimates after implementing mitigation actions with the ultimate goal of being established, in the next deliverable, the
